Weekly Devlogs II: Week 5/6 (Part 2)
Hello everybody, Kaiden here.
We've finally done it: we're officially in 1.0! The game is now fully playable from start to finish. As Tyro spoke of yesterday, this new version comes with the full set of levels, on top of a few other changes gameplay wise. There's still quite a bit of work to do, but for now, allow me to explain what you'll be getting into with these new levels and changes.
As you might have seen from our earlier blogs, the game is segmented into four phases. In each, you will find new mechanics to utilize for your speed.
- In Phase One, you will be taught the basics of the game. You'll familiarize yourself with the general movement mechanics, chaining jumps with gunfire to boost yourself upwards and around. You'll find the bare essentials of GyroGun's obstacles, like boost pads, jump pads and slow firing enemies.
- In Phase Two, your skills will be tested further. You will be introduced to gas vents to fly higher, and deadly saw blades to avoid -- lest you be torn to shreds!
- In Phase Three, you'll find input pads -- blue boost pads that react accordingly to your direction held, which can result in some unique methods of movement. You will also notice red reverse pads which slow you down, helping ease you into certain directions, or perhaps being obstacles to avoid, depending on the use case? You'll also navigate through the bullet hell of tougher enemies.
- In Phase Four, alongside the major addition of teleporters, these will be the toughest levels GyroGun has to offer. By this point, you'll have mastered your arsenal. How fast can you go?
In a later update, we will be addressing some more concerns with the game. While the game may be technically complete, there is still a lot of features to be introduced, such as:
- Controller support
- Proper UI/menus (instead of shitty Unity stock buttons)
- Improved visuals such as post-processing
- A better tutorial
- And various other quality of life features!
